5 Ways To Stay Cool This Summer
When we think of staying cool during the hot summer months, most of us immediately think to jump in a pool or hole up indoors next to our AC unit. Well, think again! This summer you can keep cool, look hot and have fun with a few easy tips.
1. Infuse Your Water
We are all 100% aware of the importance of drinking water. Water is hands down one of the best things for our bodies, especially during summer months when we’re more dehydrated from the heat. If you’re one of those people who isn’t a huge fan of drinking regular spring water, I have the perfect solution: flavored water. Not flavored bottled water with “natural and artificial flavors” but real, delicious, healthy flavored water. Mix any citrus fruits, melons or berries together and if you’re really looking to get creative, throw a few herbs in, like sage, rosemary, basil and mint. My current obsession: lemon + cucumber + strawberry.
2. Floppy sun hat
These hats aren’t just for the Kentucky Derby anymore! Not only trendy, but they are great for keeping the sun out of your eyes and protecting your face and scalp from UV rays. Whether you’re taking a stroll on the boardwalk, going out to lunch with girlfriends or catching some rays on the beach, this hat is an absolute must. This hat is also great because it usually goes with any outfit, as long as you purchase one in a neutral color. I love this floppy hat paired with this summer maxi dress and this bright lipstick. Such an easy yet adorable outfit!
3. Facial Mist
Remember when you were younger and you had those portable duo fan/spray bottles to keep you cool? This Evian Facial Mist might as well be the grown up version of that. Evian, a highly reputable water brand, has a mineral facial spray that is quite perfect in the summer. These portable bottles are small enough to keep with you on the go, and they’re perfect for when you’re in those situations when the heat is just too unbearable (think your nephew’s soccer game or your neighbor’s outdoor BBQ). Plus, this spray moisturizes, refreshes and tones your skin so you keep cool and freshen up at the same time.
4. Homemade popsicles
OK, yum. We grew up loving popsicles, and hey, what’s summer without a creamsicle now and then? You’re right – it’s not as fun! That’s why you need to invest in a Popsicle tray to make your own healthy yet delicious popsicles. Kind of like the infused water I mentioned earlier, you can pretty much throw anything into these Popsicle trays. Only directions: freeze, devour, and smile. Some favorite things to throw in: yogurt, juice, berries and other fruit, almond milk, peanut butter, chocolate chips or nuts (try pistachios!).
5. Become a Mixologist:
This summer you can fake your vacation by creating chilled summery cocktails. Grab a blender or a cocktail shaker, hit up the nearest liquor store and get your drink on! You can make the standard (yet always delicious) strawberry daiquiri, piña colada or margarita, or you can switch it up a bit. This Basil Bloody Mary and this Fig & Melon Martini both look to-die-for! If you want to really gain some credibility behind the bar, Cocktail Classes are springing up everywhere. Bartenders teach these classes and for a fee you receive personal instruction and 4-5 drinks. What a fun (and cool) activity to do with your group of friends!
